In July of 2016, Andre Reed, who developed the Pinemont Pavilion, told The Leader that he and a partner had recently closed on the small shopping complex at the corner of Ella and Pinemont.
The property at 5135 Ella Blvd has undergone a makeover and will house some new tenants, as well as some old ones.
Hoity Toity Dog Grooming
This is their second location. The first is on 11th street in the Heights. Hoity Toity moved in before Reed bought the property and made significant upgrades to their space. They offer grooming, daycare and boarding.
Maria’s Tacos and More
Maria’s is not new although some might think it is because her upgrades include a new outdoor dining space and storefront. As one reviewer said, “Maria is in the back cooking up some delicious, greasy goodness. And if you’re a breakfast taco person, this is the real deal. And where else can you get fresh tortillas and salsa and piping hot taco stuffing for $1?! The lunch tacos are excellent as well.”
Pappa’s Son Donuts
Sontara Oum said he’s ready to start selling donuts in the neighborhood, and would be already if the permitting process wasn’t so slow.
He has a Pasadena donut shop under another name so Pappa’s Son would be a standalone. He plans to offer biscuits, kolaches and croissant sandwiches too.
Michael Hall was renting space at Salon Park and then worked in a mobile shop before opening a place of his own. He and another stylist are ready to start serving customers.
He reports that he passed two inspections this week and hopes to pass the remaining one so he can open in the next week or so. That just leaves the former Tire Shop to be filled. Reed says that the space is 1,350 square feet.
Speaking of a long time in the permitting process, Ploughman’s Deli & Café at the Pinemont Pavilion has been at it for a year and is getting closer to an opening date.
Nikki Thomas told The Leader last May that she and Darren Greenwood – who heads up the kitchen at Petrol Station – were opening Ploughman’s Deli and Café. At the time, they wanted to be open by September.
“We are in the neighborhood and love it here,” said Thomas. In late January, they announced that build-out had started. “We will post updates on our progress, and give you an opening date as soon as we have one,” said Thomas.
