While there are plenty of woodland creatures at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, a most unique fashion show will attract a few more – including unicorns and centaurs – on the evening of Thursday, June 28.
The Mystic Forest Fashion Experience brings four designers to show their creations on a 100-yard outdoor runway at the nature center.
Spectators can buy tickets for the 250 person seated area, or for standing room only. Either way, you can enjoy the cash only floating bars, harp players, DJs and regulars from the Renaissance Fest.
“There will be quite a bit to do,” said Jared Lang who is the CEO and founder of Makin Muves, a marketing company with a millennial focus who is co-sponsoring the event. Lang is also the founder of Fashion Houston LLC. He is working with Manuel Reuter of When Worlds Collide Productions who conceived of the event.
Reuter’s last fashion show was in an industrial park but he was looking to do something different this time. The arboretum initially didn’t approve of his outdoor ideas but after Reuter presented a minimal impact plan, he got the green light. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Houston Arboretum to support its initiatives.
“We always make an effort to give back,” said Lang.
Light summer chic is the attire for event, both on the runway and off.
“There will be a lot of colors, and a lot of smoke,” said Lang. “It will be a The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe feel.”
Lang said that he’s worked with well-known Houston designer David Peck in the past. Peck’s designs have been featured in many mainstream magazines, and he has also dressed celebrities such as Kate Bosworth, Lauren Conrad, and Taylor Swift.
Participating designer Danny Nguyen, the owner of Danny Nguyen Couture in Houston, is more avant guard according to Lang. Nguyen has showcased collections at New York Fashion Week. The other two featured designers in the Mystic Forest show are Isrel Fonseca and Luis Astengo of Engomichu, both graduates of the Art Institute of Houston.
The first two designers will showcase ten to twelve looks each before an intermission. Then the remaining designers will do the same after the break.
The Houston heat will no doubt be an attendee too, but rest assured all ticket holders will get fans. Tickets are now on sale at MysticForesthtx.eventbrite.com. Those who buy the seated tickets will also get a swag bag valued at $500 and access to the VIP lounge.
In addition to Makin Muves, Paul Mitchell and Karbach Brewing Company are featured sponsors.
Next up for the organizers is a fall fashion show, this time in Sugarland.
