Well, it’s sweater weather again. Don’t believe me? Just try buying a swimsuit, it’s impossible. Forget the fact that temperatures still hover near triple digits, pools are closed, and stores want you to buy long sleeved shirts and jackets.
There is no dress requirement at First Saturday Arts Market and the event is back open during the day, so consider wearing less than normal. Leave those sweaters at home.
Wood artist Heiko Weiner (The Leader, March 21, 2018) may have more to talk about than his intricately turned bowls and vases. Just ask him how his summer vacation was.
In my interview with Weiner this past March, he revealed that he planned to return to the Himalayas to climb Mt. Lhotse, which is located next to Mt. Everest. A mere 27,940 ft, the summit is the 4th highest in the world.
Mountain climbing has got to be one of the most physically and mentally challenging things a person can do.
I’ve yet to catch up with Weiner about his trip to Kathmandu, Nepal and his near-successful climb.
Visit the Facebook page, @LhotseEBC, that he and his wife used for friends to follow along, the photos are breathtaking.
Before reaching the summit, Weiner experienced numb feet and made the decision to turn back. That may be the reason we get to see him at the market this Saturday, stop by and thank him for returning!
Weiner will join about thirty other artists from around Houston this Saturday for the return to daytime hours.
All of the artists are listed on the website with photos, descriptions, and links to their web and social media sites. 1stSatArtMarket.com.

First Saturday Arts Market will turn 15 years in a few months. It’s hard to believe I’ve been doing this every month for that long. Visit us between 11 a.m., and 6 p.m. At 530 W. 19th St., under the I AM LOVE mural painted on the Adore Dental building.
