Writing about art and events in this column, promoting them constantly through email and social media, I am often presumed to be a man about town with little to no sleep. While that is partially true on occasion, I think I met the guy that truly lives that lifestyle and his name is Chris Minamyer.
Minamyer is an artist (CM & Art), and partner with Texas Music & Art, an event company with Harley Meyer and The Wine, No Whine Show with host Joe Orsak.
The talk show guests are invited to discuss everything we shouldn’t: politics, religion, nothing volatile, in a civil manner while drinking wine. The show is broadcast live from their Facebook page, @winenowhine.
Before this whirlwind of art activities, Minamyer worked 12 years as an emergency management/ prevention specialist. Art became his release from that stressful environment.
Sunday, July 1, Minamyer is hosting an event like few have seen – a little bit of everything from the art world under one roof, “Networked Art Show and Tell: Art event for Artists & Collectors. The event is 1 – 5 p.m. At the @45ArtCenter, 3803 Barnett St., Houston, TX 77017 and is free to the public.
“I have gathered 30 plus local art gallery owners, art event coordinators, art directors, artists, art promoters, art professionals, and their support for an informal “show and tell, no wrong questions” event like Houston has never seen,” Minamyer said in a press release.
Over thirty artists will display their work, there will be an acoustic open mic, mural painting, body painting, and many of the invited coordinators and directors will speak for 15 minutes. I’ve never seen such a long list of events and people in one place. Check out the guest list on the Facebook event page at facebook.com/events/1656661374412002/ – just try to keep up with Minamyer: chrisminamyer.com.
Independence Day is Wednesday, July 4, and the City of Houston will once again host Citgo Freedom Over Texas at Eleanor Tinsley Park. Artist volunteers from First Saturday Arts Market will be there again, assisting anyone that wants to be an artist, to paint on our enormous double-sided “canvas.”
The event is $8 early and $10 at the gate, the event is open 4-10 p.m., with country music star, Chris Young headlining. I used to shy away from events like this but I am hooked now, the City of Houston puts on a great show, and this is one of my favorites now. Stop by our booth, near the kid’s area and I’ll paint with you! Early tickets online: https://www.etix.com/ticket/v/13200/eleanor-tinsley-park
