The Houston Police Department Homicide Division is now investigating what has been deemed a “suspicious” house fire in which a husband and wife are among three dead in the Oak Forest area early Friday morning.
“It is a suspicious death–we are definitely taking a look into it. It is what we would consider more than just a normal house fire,” HPD spokesperson Jodi Silva said at the scene.
According to our media partners at KHOU, Houston police say early indications point to the deadly fire being part of a murder/suicide, pending autopsy results.
According to the Houston Fire Department, the blaze began around 5:30 a.m. at a home in the 1300 block of Richeliu Lane near Oak Forest Drive. Upon arrival to the scene, officials said heavy, 50-foot flames were shooting out of the home; but the blaze is now under control.
All three deceased were found in separate areas of the home — one inside the main home, a second in the back house and third outside on the lawn.
The Houston Arson Bureau is on the scene to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.
A bomb squad was also called to the scene as a precaution based on ammunition found inside the home.
Friends have described the family as sweet, humble and friendly, and had never heard anything bad about them. As of now, authorities are not releasing the victims’ names out of respect for the family.
