Linda Powers and Rich Ruckel have known each other since grade school. While they’ve experienced a lot as friends and neighbors, they never realized that would include two trips to the Emergency Center over just a few days.
“I fell while cooking out with friends. I thought I’d just twisted my ankle, so I put some ice on it and went to bed. The next morning, I woke up in a lot of pain, and wanted to make sure it wasn’t broken. That’s when I called my friend and neighbor, Rich Ruckel, to take me to the Emergency Center,” says Powers.
Powers heard about the recent opening of the Memorial Hermann Convenient Care Center in Greater Heights, and Ruckel took her there because it was close to her home.
“I was amazed at how quickly I was seen,” recalls Powers. “I’ve taken my mother to other emergency facilities before and had to wait several hours.
Not there. I was able to get right in. They did an X-ray on my foot and confirmed that it wasn’t broken.”
Little did the pair know they would end up back at the Convenient Care Center just a few days later.
“Several days after taking Linda to the Emergency Center, I began to experience severe pain in my abdomen. We went back to the Emergency Center at the Convenient Care Center, where I had a MRI. Turns out I had kidney stones,” says Ruckel.
Ruckel said he was impressed by the care he and Powers received during their separate visits.
“The attention I received during my visit was great, and the day after my visit, someone called to follow up and check on me. When you’re having an emergency, you want to be seen as quickly as possible. Houston has a lot of people living here and the Convenient Care Center is a great option where you can receive emergency care more quickly,” says Ruckel.
Memorial Hermann has Convenient Care Centers located around the Houston area, designed to offer patients a convenient option for emergency care from a trusted name, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The outpatient imaging department offers CT scans, X-rays, ultrasound and MRI services. Patients at a Convenient Care Center who need a higher level of care can be transferred to the closest Memorial Hermann hospital.
