Pokéology opening at Sawyer Yards
Jason Liao and co-founder Charlie Chang have gained the funding to open a brand-new storefront of Pokéology at Sawyer Yards in the Heights. This new location will allow for the refinement and expansion of their menu. The new menu will include items like karaage, edamame, skewered meats, new poke bowls, vegetarian, and non-seafood options. This upgrade will also allow for the sell of alcoholic beverages like beer and sake.
Trentino Gelato at H.E.B.
Houston-based Trentino Gelato has been offering its tasty treats at places like Axelrad and Luna Pizzeria for the past 13 years. Now, according to CultureMap, there will be a statewide appearance of its handcrafted goat milk Gelato Pops available at 190 H.E.B stores (including Houston locations). The flavors that will be available at H.E.B. are Sweet Milk, Chocolate, Cajeta (Mexican Caramel), and Strawberry.
Ready Room now open
The newest retro bar in the heights just quietly opened next to Ritual. As reported by CultureMap, the bar’s liquor selection includes an extensive collection of bourbon, global whisky, and a variety of other spirits. On Fridays and Saturdays, Ready Room will make room for live musical performances of jazz and blues to keep in tune with the retro vibe. 2626 White Oak St.
Chic wine in the Heights
In a few months a new wine bar and boutique wine shop will debut in the Heights, according to Eater Houston. The wine bar, La Grande Rue, will be located at 1344 Yale Street in a 20’s or 30’s standalone building. The concept was created by two friends who thought the Heights was in desperate need of a fine wine bar. The shop will have 300 – 400 varieties of wine with a large tasting table in the middle. The debut is set for late October, early November.
Shell Shack in July
A seafood boil restaurant is coming to Houston for the first time. Shell Shack has plans to open up its 2412 Washington location this July. According to HoustonPress, diners will be able to choose from boiled seafood such as crab, shrimp, and crawfish with their choice of spice. For the non-seafood diners there will be hamburger and buffalo chicken available.
New at Liberty Kitchen & Oyster Bar
Liberty Kitchen is debuting some new brunch cocktails. Incorporating some of the restaurant’s favorites like house pepper-infused vodka and its sweet-savory-spicy Bacon Jam, the restaurant has unveiled a new line-up of brunch cocktails, including the Midlane Michelada, a Mojito Mimosa, a Mimosa Flight and a Bacon Jam Bloody Mary! Guests can taste through the cocktails during weekend brunch hours (Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.)
New Mexican in the Heights
Calle Onze recently debuted at 222 W. 11th St. for the locals ready to try a new Mexican restaurant. According to Eater Houston, it opened last Saturday with full service. For now, they are open for dinner only, but should be doing lunch this week, or next. The menu features traditional dishes from chef Oliver Loeza like fajitas and tamales, as well as more exploratory options like nopal and chorizo ravioli.
