Susan Gray Neale Hoefer, 72, born Feb. 6, 1945 in Birmingham, Ala., died March 12. Hoefer graduated from St. Pius High School and received her Bachelor’s of Arts with a major in English and a minor in History from Lamar University. She was employed as a public school educator in Houston Independent School District for 38 years. She later furthered her expertise by earning a Master’s of Education from St. Thomas University. Survivors include her husband Joseph, daughters Jennifer and Sara, sister Terri, brother Peter, and three grandchildren.
Sharon K. Messa, 66, born Oct. 19, 1950 in Omaha, Neb., died March 13. Messa practiced law in Houston for 32 years. She was an active member of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. She was also a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Houston Bar Association. Messa is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Robert Messa, son John Robert Erwin Jr., stepson Dr. Matthew Jonas Messa, brother David McClanahan, sister Becky Jalass, and two grandchildren.
Angelo Martinez Navarro, 85, born Nov. 1, 1931, died March 15. He was retired from Borden’s Ice Cream Company after working more than 26 years as a machine foreman. Navarro is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rosa Navarro, daughters Angelique Vasquez, Melissa Asbell and Romula Navarro and eight grandchildren.
James Darrell “Jimmy” Newbury, 57, born May 13, 1959, died March 16. Newbury was employed by EGC for 20 years before going to work for H.I.S.D. He was a member of the Garden Oaks Masonic Lodge #1306. Survivors include his wife of 36 years Sharon Kuecker Newbury, son Matthew William Newbury, and brother Kenneth Newbury.
Allyne Pearl Pollard, 87, born Sept. 9, 1929, died March 13. She was a faithful member of St. Stephens United Methodist since 1961. She retired from the Harper Beauty Salons after 45 years and continued her career at the Beauty Pavilion and the Salon of Woodway. Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Eddie Nash Pollard, sons Kerry Pollard and Byron Pollard, sister Verlyn Smith, brother Ewald Grawunder Jr., seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Janet Kay Ross, 56, born Oct. 3, 1960, died March 18.
