Lynn Ashby’s April 7 whine about the Electoral College was par for the course. Whenever Democradolescents lose a presidential election, they attack the voting system and/or claim some sinister force (exempli gratia Russians) rigged the contest against them; the loss never results from fielding a hideous candidate. After the 2000 election, leftists in various locales demanded their state constitutions be amended such that all the state’s electoral votes go to the winner of the national popular vote, regardless of the outcome within the state. Had that been done, ha, their Bush Derangement Syndrome would have melted down in 2004, when W won the popular vote. As for presidential candidates ignoring the red state of Texas, they know we are consistently sensible enough to vote wisely for America, thus their time/money is better spent elsewhere. P.S. It’s obvious from signage around the Heights that the November Senate race is a binary proposition: Be to, or not Be to — that is the question.
Reader donates $50 to help a child attend Leader Media Camp
Bravo Jonathan. Before moving to Houston 40 years ago, we lived in a small town in New Jersey a mile past the George Washington Bridge. Because of the proximity to New York City, we had more than our fair share of artists, writers, photographers, musicians, etc. as neighbors, many of whom had kids in the school system. It was not uncommon for these professionals to volunteer to teach different disciplines to groups of local students. My children benefited tremendously not only from the knowledge and skills they were learning, but from the interaction with respected, responsible, professional adults who cared enough to educate and excite young minds.
I am sending you a $50 donation to help defray the cost of any child who cannot afford to attend. I challenge other like minded readers to offer what they can to your youth Media Camp.
Garden Oaks has chance to fix itself now
I do believe that GOMO should refund that money to homeowners. Always wondered if it was legal for them to take it. Would be interested in exactly how they would be able to track homeowners who no longer live in Garden Oaks, but paid the fee when they purchased/sold.
