This goes out to the overwhelming majority of runners I daily see scampering hither and yon, up and down the Heights Boulevard track, aerobically mincing across the numbered-street intersections (6th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 14th, 16th et cetera) without looking one way or another left or right — totally oblivious to whether some driver with his head up his phone just might be turning a vehicle into their paths, splattering them all over the pavement. Ready their tombstone epitaphs: “But I Had The Right-Of-Way!”
Heights no longer ‘dry’
The Heights can now sell alcohol with abandon. Let the good times begin. From a bar owner quoted in your paper, “the pain has ended with having to swipe their license or ID to become a member of the private club.” The actions of Heights voters has lowered the bar from those drinkers capable of withstanding the “pain” of swiping two items (ID and credit card for payment) down to the level of those drinkers capable only of swiping one pain-free item (credit card for payment). Is this a good thing? Now the Heights is just like everywhere else; no longer unique, no longer weird. Effort is no longer needed to be a resident of the Heights with its unique identity now gone. Who would want to be unique and weird anyway? Oh, yeh, that city up the road. At least the Heights is no longer unique and weird like them.
How does Sheila Jackson Lee keep getting elected?
I have often wondered how anyone as incompetent as Sheila Jackson Lee could possibly hold a job much less be elected to a Congressional seat. Her accolades for the Astros were an embarrassment as she congratulated Jose “Altuwee” and the Astros for being World “Serious” Champions.
My questions to the voters of the 18th Congressional District, of which I am a member, are:
1. Did you vote for Sheila because she is black? If so, I want to remind you her opponent is black.
2. Did you vote for Sheila because she is female? If so, I want to remind you her opponent is female.
3. Did you vote for her because she has been such a strong Congressional leader proposing bill after bill in order to make people’s lives better … really, name one bill.
4. Or did you vote for her because you blindly went to the polls and pushed the button for a democrat because that is what your parents and grandparents did?
Sheila is nothing more than Nancy Pelosi’s lap dog. Whatever Nancy tells her to do she does, without question. I personally would prefer someone who has enough mental ability to think for him/herself.
Isn’t it about time our District elects someone who has a chance to present a good image for us and who realizes that being elected means that you serve the people not the other way around?
