In regards to the letter in The Reader column dated Feb. 10, which was in regards to Major Election Cycle article of Feb. 3, all I can say is “Whoa Nelly. Where’s the disclosure line that says, ‘This has been a paid political announcement’”?
OK, it’s a non-paid political announcement written in the style of reverse psychology and veiled sarcasm. If you read The Leader and especially The Reader column regularly as I do, you can easily pick up the political drift of frequent letter contributors. It’s an opinion column and we all have opinions. “Not that there’s anything wrong with that” as they would say on the Jerry Seinfeld show.
OK, my opinion is that the Democratic Party and certain of its candidates, especially Sheila Jackson-Lee, are amazed to see such support and praise coming to them from a source that in my experience as a long-time reader has never had one good word for any Democrat including Ms. Lee.
What gives? Is it a “metamorphosis” or a Trojan Horse?
In my opinion, “Beware the Trojan Horse.”
Rebuttal of Jackson Lee Endorsement
The Feb. 17 letter from J. Reynolds suggesting that Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (SJL) would make a great Senator or VP was laughable.
According to the www.govtrack.us, SJL introduced the second most bills (76) in the 114th Congress, yet only one of her bills was approved. It shows how out of touch her views are with the rest of the country. She has the third worst record amongst Texas delegates for missing votes – 12.4%. Ninety-seven percent of all Representatives had better vote attendance records. Where was she? I have written SJL numerous emails, yet I have never received a single response, not even a form letter based on the subject. I called recently to complain about the issue and her staff promised to respond immediately, yet they never did. Does she read any emails submitted through her website? She rents an office on 19th Street that is rarely occupied, thereby wasting tax payer money. She has co-sponsored outrageous bills to impeach President Bush in 2008 and Trump recently. In the last State of the Union address she rudely sat stone-faced even though the current administration has driven unemployment for African Americans to a record low. In contrast, you could see her beg for autographs and fawn over Emperor Obama at his State of the Union addresses. As insight to her temperament, you only need to look at the recent airline seat incident where she used her congressional privilege to hijack the seat of another woman. In my opinion, SJL is the poster child for term limits.
Op-Ed … Two Sides
Your Jan. 27 “Two Sides” Op-Ed was the most needed and dead on accurate Op-Ed on the current state of the news media I think I’ve ever read.
My only disappointment is that your piece wasn’t picked up and run by news media outlets across the country. Your musings could have served as an early in the year wake up call to both those who produce and consume the so called “news” of the day.
Reader fails to see redeeming qualities on Republican ballot
Re your statement “you’re going to puke” when you see the Democratic ballot, I can only say that you must have a strong stomach to face the Republican ballot. I fail to see any redeeming qualities in Ted Cruz (called the most hated man in the Senate, Governor Abbott (who thinks emergency legislation is a bathroom bill and another anti-abortion bill), and Sid Miller and Ken Paxton (whose faults are too numerous to name). You are apparently one of those people who think any Republican, no matter how bad, is better than any Democrat. This is how our state got to be last or near last is so many categories from education to healthcare to maternal mortality. By the way, I have voted in every election, city, state, and national since 1954 except for one local and one national when I was in the Army and I have voted for Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.
Same letter two week’s in a row?
Why would you run J. Reynolds exact letter two weeks in a row? You can’t tell me you have nothing else to run than this 2x. It’s your newspaper and it’s free so you can print whatever y’all would like. Just think you’d give your readers something else besides this two weeks in a row.
The Leader unintentially ran the J. Reynolds letter two weeks in a row due to an oversight. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused our readers.
