Houston police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man in a Heights apartment early Sunday morning. Rosenberg man Jason Griffin, 39 has been charged with felon in possession of a weapon, manslaughter, and unlawful possession of body armor in connection with the killing.
Around 1:30 a.m. March 4, authorities were dispatched to the garage apartment where police say the suspect attended a party at 302 W. 23rd Street. At some point, police say, the suspect allegedly shot the victim – now identified by court records as Daniel Barber – in the chest after the victim put on a bulletproof vest. Police say the suspect fled the scene with another witness immediately following the shooting. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
According to a release from the Houston Police Department, the suspect was taken into custody Sunday morning without incident at an area hospital. He remained in custody at the hospital as of Monday morning while being treated for a medical issue, while investigators still have yet to determine whether the incident was the result of a dare.
