Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested after he was identified in a social media video, firing gunshots near a park and nearby homes at 2100 Cohn St. on the edge of Heights the night of Nov. 20.
Per a release from the Houston Police Department, the suspect, now identified as Edwin Alexander Ospino Soto, 22, is charged with deadly conduct in the 351st State District Court.
As referenced in our Nov. 25 edition, Houston police responded to a call of gunshots going off near Cohn Street, with several vehicles speeding away in the aftermath. Later, a video popped up on Snapchat, with investigators saying the suspect could be clearly seen on the video discharging a weapon in the direction of nearby homes.
Officers initially came up empty on the preliminary sweep, but after the video was released to Crime Stoppers, investigators received a tip identifying Soto as the suspect. HPD officers were reportedly able to locate and arrest the suspect Nov. 22 without incident.
According to media reports, a judge ordered Ospino Soto to remain on a curfew and wear a GPS monitor after appearing in court earlier this week. He was also prohibited from having weapons or visiting the site of the shooting. Anyone with additional information in this case is urged to contact the Houston Police Department’s Major Assaults Unit at 713-308-3600.
