In the late fall of 2015, The Barking Pig opened doors at 2307 Ella Blvd. The patio bar/eatery has found a home on Ella Boulevard offering beer, wine, classic cocktails, a full bar and food that puts a different spin on the typical bar food offerings.
Just this month, The Barking Pig is expanding hours and menus, now offering lunch at 11 a.m. every day.
“Now that we have hit a year and a half, we started looking at what the neighborhood wanted/needed and many requested that we open earlier,” owner Kristen Powell said. “We added a specific lunch menu. Things like Fish Tacos – grilled or fried, Meatball Sub, Chicken Salad Sandwich or Wrap, Salads with your choice of protein.”
I visited for lunch this week, with a great friend accompanying me. The two of us ordered the Brussel Sprouts, which are flash fried and topped with truffle oil and parmesan.
Next was the chicken salad sandwich, served with your choice of fries or chips. To complete our order – we were hungry – we ordered the lettuce wraps, which are a build yourself wrap, served with pulled pork, pickled veggies (both made in-house), cilantro and jalapeños, and a aioli sauce.
From our order, the lettuce wraps were my favorite. If I was having lunch solo, this would have been my order, plus maybe an additional side if I was pretty hungry.
I like the wraps for the health factor – eating a piece of lettuce instead of a tortilla or something else that is heavy – lunch for me usually needs to be something light, that way I can actually be productive when heading back to the office. Owner Kristen Powell said she’s excited about the new hours and also their expanded patio.
“Now with the extended patio, we can accommodate larger groups, more puppies and more fun.”
And if you didn’t know, The Barking Pig is pet friendly, with water bowls, waste bags and even dog biscuits for hungry pups on-hand on the patio. New lunch ideas are always a good idea. Stop in at The Barking Pig to see what’s new.
