It’s even worse than you describe here. Not only do they want The News to take sides, but they want the other side to have no outlet at all. See the censorship with Twitter, Google, YouTube and so on.
I am heartbroken for Mr. Rubiralta and the community and will NEVER forgive Mr. Momin for taking down those oak trees, but you couldn’t be more on point. Thank you, an excellent op ed and good stories too, although I’m sad that either had to be written.
Well said. Just the facts please and I’ll use my brain to figure out what to do next.
Well said but at the end of the day, there is only one owner here, and that is not Slowpokes. There was plenty of lease opportunities in the neighborhood but they chose the Alba location and probably should’ve had someone knowledgeable read the contract instead of now constant whining about the present outcome. It is sickening that the community would try to rally a neighborhood to boycott the market or any other business interested in leasing at this location. What fault would they have? People here are ridiculous and I don’t see this outrage when new construction clears out the entire lot of trees that have been there just as long as two trees behind Slowpokes or businesses forced to move to make room for businesses that last a year at best then remain empty after that. People need to seriously grow up and deal, and the fact that they will continue to give Slowpokes their business is ultimately giving the owner their business so it’s silly to have a tantrum over something they aren’t changing, but rather contributing to the owner’s bottom line. Don’t they realize the money they spend at slowpokes pays the lease that in turn pays the owner’s renovation including removing trees? Wake Up Oak Forest!
Lynn Ashby right on target
Lynn Ashby’s catalog of indictments against Texas was right on target. All who’ve seen the 1974 documentary “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” know that Texas is awash with hicks, rubes and violent crazies. The climate is either desert-dry or swamp-muggy, unlivable in many locales. The various accents exude slow-talking twangy or nasal stupidity. Let the word go forth to the sophisticated, progressive people in America’s intelligentsia centers — California, New York, Washington State, Oregon, Connecticut and elsewhere: Texas is an utterly horrible place, comprehensively backward and ghastly. By all means, do NOT move here!
