Spicy Bear hitting the Heights this summer
The frat brothers behind the Spicy Dog food truck is putting down roots in the heights with their new brick and mortar, Spicy Bear. The concept will focus on breakfast sandwiches and milk teas but will also serve Japanese-inspired hot dogs and bulgogi loaded fries that made the food truck so popular. The new concept will debut this summer at 2723 Yale St.
Puerto Rican food at Dr. Gleem
There’s a new eatery at 3103 Ella inside the Dr. Gleem Carwash. Sofrito is a Puerto Rican cafe that serves just two sandwich options, burger, yuca fries, tostones, and wings, according to EaterHouston. Diners can grab a Cuban sandwich with slow roasted pork, pinapple and achiote glazed ham, swiss, and mustard pressed between a bun—all while their car gets cleaned. Sofrito is open Monday – Saturday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Cantina Barba now open
The Cantina Barba is now open at 3701 N. Main St. everyday beginning at 7 a.m., serving their delicious tacos from the Taqueria Barba food struck.
Wine festival this Saturday
The Rioia Wine & Tapa Festival Houston is this Saturday, June 2. According to the Houston Chronicle, the event will feature numerous winemakers with Rioja wines and some of Houston’s top chefs will be offering up yummy food. Chefs from all over the country will also be there preparing Spanish dishes and tapas. The festival will be at the Corinthian, 202 Fannin, 1:30 – 5 p.m. General admission is $65 and VIP. $80 (plus early entry at 1 p.m.)
Battle Royale with Cheese: save the date
Slow Dough Bread Co, Houston Dairymaids, Saint Arnold Brewing Company and Eureka Heights Brew Company are collaborating on Friday June 22, for the Battle Royale With Cheese throw down. The event will take place at Bernie’s Burger Bus at 2200 Yale in the Heights at 9 p.m., as reported by Houston Press. Saint Arnold and Eureka will go head to head with supersized sliders, Canadian-style poutine, and beer for this event that will benefit the charity Kids’ Meals. Tickets are $30.
