Candidates for the local seat in the Texas House of Representatives, which recently was filled by former Houston ISD trustee Anna Eastman, will focus on public education during an upcoming forum in the Heights.
The forums are part of a series of more than 40 nonpartisan “For the Future” candidate forums and town halls across the state coordinated by the Raise Your Hand Texas Foundation in the weeks leading up to the March 3 primary election. Candidates for the race impacting the area, for Texas House District 148, will take place Monday evening.
The six District 148 candidates – five Democrats and one Republican – are expected to attend the event scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10 at A Second Cup, 1111 E. 11th St. in the Heights. The Democratic candidates are Eastman, who last month won a special election to replace fellow Democrat Jessica Farrar, along with Adrian Garcia, Cynthia Reyes-Revilla, Penny Morales Shaw and Emily Wolf. The lone Republican candidate is Lui La Rotta, who lost to Eastman in a runoff.
