High school football season in Texas kicked off last weekend, and there wasn’t a lot that went right for the area’s teams.
No area school scored a victory in what amounted to a trying opening weekend. Lutheran High North did not play and was scheduled to start its season with a Friday home game against Sabine Pass.
Among notable performances was St. Thomas junior quarterback Maddox Kopp, who threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start. But he and the Eagles were unable to overcome a sluggish start in 28-17 loss to Strake Jesuit.
Below is a rundown of scores for games involving area teams.
Bridgeland 70, Waltrip 17
Worthing 28, Booker T. Washington 9
Milby 58, Scarborough 0
Dekaney 35, Heights 7
Strake Jesuit 28, St. Thomas 17
Beaumont United 53, St. Pius X 6
