Saturday is White Linen Night in the Heights which means I get to use the word plethora in a sentence, ready?
There will be a plethora of events, art shows, artists, bands, food, drinks, music, dancing, white linen, tan men, tan women, walking, sitting, staring, people watching, juggling, poetry slamming, sipping and strolling this Saturday evening at White Linen Night in the Heights on W. 19th Street.
In last week’s Leader and published online, Landan Kuhlmann covered the entire event’s goings on and history. You can also get the scoop on the website, theheightswhitelinennight.com.
The artists from First Saturday Arts Market that line the 200 and 300 blocks of W. 19th St. are listed on the website as well. A select number of artisans from The Market at Sawyer Yards will be in attendance too! This is the first time both markets are showing together, I hope to add more next year.
Where do you start? What’s your favorite store in the Heights? Find out what they’re doing and start there.
The Opening Reception for Cressandra Thibodeaux’s mixed-media art show on Reproductive Rights “My Box Series” is Saturday 6 – 8 p.m. at G-Spot Gallery. Ten percent of the proceeds go to Planned Parenthood.
Cesar Cano will be serving up his amazing tacos. Proprietor Wayne Gilbert will host amazing art and shows, which would be an excellent start for the evening. 310 E. 9th St., Houston, TX 77007. gspotgallery.com
Former Heights artist James J. Armentor (Art Valet: Go behind the scenes with Heights artist, Dec. 3, 2015) returns on White Linen Night and is the guest artist at Shawn Manderscheid Real Estate, 638 Heights Blvd. Houston, Texas 77007.
Armentor combines skills he used as a custom artist on motorcycles and hot rods with his passion for fine art painting, resulting in highly finished, multilayered paintings.
Tonya Engel is a self-taught artist born in Texas and has established studios in New York, Paris, Miami, Austin and Houston. Heavily influenced by folk artists of the Deep South and masters like Mark Chagall, Frida Kahlo, and Romare Beardon, her contemporary style engages figurative form mixed with emotion & expressionistic boldness.
Engel is one of my favorite artists, and you can meet her Saturday evening at Vinal Edge Records, 239 W. 19th St.
Late breaking news music fans, Picture Book, the popular rock ’n roll cover band, will perform in front of Retropolis, 321 W 19th St. Picture Book has been a White Linen Night favorite missing for a few years now, welcome back, guys! Thanks for bringing them, Pam Pellegrino!
Have fun and find me in my yellow tent at 19th and Rutland. I’ll be doling out free advice.
