It should be no surprise that an art show this Saturday night is titled “Hot August Nights” with the addendum of, “A Seductive, Sensual & Sexy Art Show.” Can’t be confusing the art with the weather now.
Hardy & Nance Studios, 902 Hardy St., will present “Hot August Nights: A Seductive, Sensual & Sexy Art Show” curated by Lacey Crawford.
Crawford is no stranger to erotic art, having insinuated sensuality in many of her paintings, and most directly in a bronzed sculpture of lingerie. That, if you understand the delicacies of bronzing, is nothing short of amazing.
Crawford was a good fit for a curator is what I’m saying here, so I had to ask a few questions.
What exactly were you looking for when reviewing the art submissions?
“Besides looking for unusual, original art, and because ‘Hot August Nights,’ I was seeking sexy, interesting, engaging and erotic themes,” Crawford said. “I wanted to be seduced by profound beauty but with subtleties of forbidden excitement, conveying heightened emotion that hinted at a more primal note — a strange but deeply familiar perfume — emanating from the image like a heartbeat. I needed to see art that was well-thought out with skill and crafting of medium onto surface, also showing that the artist really dug into his or her talents.”
What impressions did you come away with?
“The art submitted was stunning and I came away feeling I had been let in on well-kept, beautiful little secrets,” Crawford said. “There were quite a few pieces unchosen because, though they had interesting composition and subjects, they seemed too raw and unfinished, but only in the way of execution; I’d love to see any one of those completed and resubmitted to be juried by future shows.”
I don’t envy the job of curating this one. I would bet, though, that this is one not to miss. Grab your honey or surprise a date!
“If you attend the event, be prepared for some rather blatant surprises as well,” Crawford said.
Because nudity will be depicted, parental guidance is suggested. Call a sitter.
The show coincides with the Third Saturday Open Studios from 5-9 p.m. Visit hardyandnancestudios.com for more information.
