Big Star Bar, 1005 W. 19th St., a popular Heights dive bar known for its nonchalant atmosphere, picnic tables and cheap beer is closing its doors — eventually.
The property owner is selling the land and, according to Houston Food Finder, bar owner Brad Moore doesn’t begrudge the decision.
The bar’s lease is up in May, but it will remain open on a month-to-month basis until the property sells.
In a Facebook post, Moore said there will be a 10-year anniversary party and a final bash to go out with a bang. The anniversary party is likely to be a two-day event May 25-26.
“To say we had ‘a good run’ would be a stupid, trite, shameful under-exaggeration,” Moore said in the Facebook post. “That place changed my life. We hope that it somehow enhances yours.”
While Big Star Bar was the first bar Moore opened, he’s now known for helping start many Houston bars that have the same easygoing attitude as Big Star, such as Sassafras at 5022 Pinemont Dr.
