Houston law firm Arnold & Itkin is hosting its fourth annual “RESPECT” contest for students across the city in an effort to foster the value of respect in the community.
Fifth-grade students in Houston ISD and other districts in the region have until Nov. 12 to submit an essay “defining respect in their own words” accompanied with an illustration to reinforce their point. The contest has been held since 2017, attracting hundreds of submissions, according to a news release from Arnold & Itkins, a personal injury law firm located at 6009 Memorial Dr.
“The students have truly taught us more about the meaning of respect than we could have ever imagined,” partner Kurt Arnold said.
Winners will be awarded a cash prize for themselves and their respective schools as well as for a charity of their choice, according to the law firm. First-place winners will receive a total of $3,000, second place will receive $2,000 and third place will win $1,000. Winners will be announced during a special ceremony in Houston’s 270th Civil Court on Nov. 30.
