The Harris County Commissioners Court on Tuesday appointed Christopher Hollins as interim Harris County Clerk. He will take office on June 1 and replace Diane Trautman, who said she is resigning at the end of May due to health issues.
Trautman had served in the position since January 2019. The role of the county clerk, which is an elected position, is to maintain court records, vital documents and administer local elections.
Hollins will serve in the position until a new clerk is chosen by voters in the Nov. 3 election. He is a Houston-based personal injury lawyer who has a background working in both the public and private sector.
