A homegrown organization dedicated to bettering the Garden Oaks and Oak Forest community is doing its part to beautify the neighborhood this weekend.
From 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, members of the North Shepherd Community Alliance (NSCA) along with area volunteers are hosting a cleanup of a portion of the North Shepherd Drive corridor by the railroad bridge near 34th Street.
Houston mayoral candidate Bill King and volunteers from his campaign will also be on hand to help the NSCA pick up litter between 34th and 38th streets, mow weeds and clean the median.
Volunteers will meet in the Cottonwood parking lot at 3422 N. Shepherd Dr. at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and are asked to bring gloves, brooms and comfortable shoes. NSCA will provide snacks, and many businesses in the area will be open to provide cold water and a restroom to volunteers.
