Multiple area apartment fires broke out in close proximity last weekend, causing estimated damage north of $100,000.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
According to the Houston Fire Department, crews arrived on the scene of a fire at the Aspen Apartments at 6150 W. Tidwell Rd. just after 10 a.m. Jan. 19 to see smoke coming from the roof of one of the complex’s two-story units. The apartment’s occupant told investigators he smelled smoke and noticed smoke coming from an electrical outlet in the bathroom.
Investigators determined the outlet shorted out, causing an accidental fire that burned up the wall and extended to the attic space of the apartment next door, causing an estimated $80,000 worth of damage.
Crews later responded to another fire less than 2 miles away at an apartment complex in the 5900 block of Pinemont Drive just before 3:30 p.m. Jan. 19 to find flames coming from the first floor of the two-story complex.
Investigators determined the cause was a cooking fire which had extended into the cabinetry and walls of the kitchen, causing an estimated $40,000 in damage.
