Police arrested a homeless man they say is responsible for breaking into two local restaurants last week.
Kennith Howell, 41, was arrested Aug. 21 and charged with two counts of burglary of a building in connection with the incidents, according to Harris County court documents. Court records also show that Howell is homeless.
Cpl. Joseph Bowden with the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office said investigators were contacted by the owner of a strip center at 1737 W. 34th St. on Aug. 21 saying an unknown suspect had broken into Surfhouse and Local Poke overnight Aug. 19. A crime alert from the constable’s office said the suspect smashed through the front-door glass of each business before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Bowden said subsequent review of surveillance video identified Howell as the suspect, and investigators later arrested him under the bridge at Ella Boulevard and Loop 610.
According to Harris County court records, Howell has multiple prior convictions for burglary, theft and trespassing, among other offenses. The constable’s office said Howell was out on probation at the time of the most recent alleged incident.
