Houston police have filed charges against a suspect in connection with an officer-involved shooting in the Heights area last weekend.
Christian Taylor, 23, has been charged with assault of a peace officer in the 182nd District Court, according to the Houston Police Department.
A news release from HPD said an officer was at the Walmart at 111 Yale St. around 12:40 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 when she was notified that a male customer was accused of shoplifting. HPD said Taylor allegedly refused multiple verbal requests and walked out the door, followed by the officer.
Following one more verbal command to stop, police say Taylor allegedly lunged at the officer and struck her several times in the head and upper body, before allegedly attacking an employee who attempted to pull him away from the officer.
HPD said the officer issued one final command to stop before Taylor allegedly lunged toward her, prompting her to fire her gun and strike him in the leg.
The incident is under investigation from HPD’s Special Investigations Unit, internal affairs and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Anyone with additional information in this case is urged to contact the Special Investigations Unit at 713-308-3600.
