An 18-year-old Houston man is facing manslaughter charges for his alleged role in the June shooting death of a younger teenager.
Harris County court records show that Eduardo Reyes, 18, told police he accidentally shot 15-year-old Jesus Calixto in the chest while visiting the victim at the Plaza Real Apartments, located at 3820 Sherwood Ln., on the afternoon of June 9. Calixto was pronounced dead at the scene, and Reyes was on scene when Houston Police Department officers arrived, according to court documents.
Citing investigators’ Aug. 25 interview with Reyes, court records show that Reyes and a friend were dropped off at the apartment by Reyes’ mother and were bringing household pesticide to Calixto. While Reyes and his friend were sitting across from Calixto and his younger brother, Calixto was handling a gun brought by Reyes, according to court documents.
The gun jammed while Calixto was handling it, and Reyes subsequently grabbed the gun and tried to correct the malfunction, court records show. While holding the gun with his right hand and his index finger on the trigger, Reyes accidentally pulled the trigger and shot Calixto, according to court documents.
Reyes was charged with manslaughter Oct. 1 and is out of jail on bond, court records show.
