Donovan Park is closed until further notice, the Houston Heights Association announced Wednesday on Facebook.
The HHA, which owns and manages the 37,505-square foot park at the northeast corner of 7th Street and Heights Boulevard, cited the guidelines outlined in the stay-at-home, work-safe order issued Tuesday by Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, whose order applies to the county and City of Houston through April 3. Although city and county parks are remaining open, the use of playgrounds, benches and sport courts is prohibited. Donovan Park consists primarily of wooden playground equipment.
There is an ongoing capital campaign called “Donovan Park Reimagined,” which aims to raise $1 million for renovations and improvements to the 24-year-old park. For more information or to donate, visit http://houstonheights.org/donovan-park-reimagined/.
