Four seniors at St Pius X High School were recently recognized for their standout academic performance.
A news release from the school said Jacob Phillips and Jack Sullo were named National Merit Commended students, placing among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who took the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test. Gabriella Gibson was named a National Hispanic Scholar and National African American Scholar, while Thomas Parlette was named a National Hispanic Scholar.
Around 34,000 “commended” students are recognized annually, according to the news release, while National Hispanic Scholars score in the top 2.5 percent of more than 400,000 PSAT/NMSQT test takers identifying as African American, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, or attend school in a rural area, or are from a small town.
“These four student leaders exemplify what it means to be Veritas men and women,” SPX principal Rachel Ware said. “They epitomize what hard work and determination can accomplish.”
