Area residents impacted by recent flooding can apply for federal assistance.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is offering assistance to Harris County homeowners, certain types of renters and businesses affected by Tropical Storm Imelda. Applications for assistance will be accepted through Dec. 3.
Residents who qualify can get assistance for their primary homes with disaster-caused expenses such as medical and dental care, child care, moving and storage, vehicle costs and some clean-up items. FEMA partners with the Small Business Administration, which offers low-interest loans for business damages.
To apply for assistance, visit disasterassistance.gov/ and type in your address to see what kind of assistance is available. Residents also apply by calling 800-621-3362 or 800-462-7585.
Many Harris County residents may not be eligible for FEMA assistance. For a list of non-FEMA recovery resources, visit ReadyHarris.org.
