The lot at 3008 Ella Blvd. is to be transformed this fall from a pawn shop into the newest location of The Halal Guys.
Franchisee Masroor Fatany had been looking for a place in the area for almost a year before stumbling upon the pawn shop that was up for sale, reported CultureMap. The convenience of the
location is also what drew Fatany to the lot, with easy freeway access and plenty of parking.
The Halal Guys are known for their chicken and beef gyro that is served with rice or served in a sandwich.
One less gelato shop in Heights
The Italian ice cream shop Gelazzi has closed its doors.
Owner Louie Comella told CultureMap the closure was due to his career in the TV and movie business becoming more prominent in his life, and he could no longer balance Gelazzi and set life.
Though the gelato is gone, it’s not gone for good. Comella plans to try to sell online and maybe have a retail location at one of the bars or restaurants that occupy a property he owns in the Heights.
Another reason Comella has chosen to close Gelazzi instead of allow another operator to take over is his protectiveness of the recipes, which have been in his family since 1953.
Chicken and waffles option opening soon
Last October, The Leader reported that The Waffle Bus would open its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in the Heights at 1835 N. Shepherd Dr.
Now the food truck-turned-restaurant is finally about to open up shop. On its Instagram, the business announced it would open soon, with sometime in August being the goal.
The menu will feature fried chicken and waffles, fried chicken sliders with waffle fries for buns, and more.
