Fat Cat Creamery, a popular Heights ice cream outpost, has opened its second location in the Stomping Grounds at Garden Oaks development, 1225 W. 34th St.
Fat Cat, which occupies 1,000 square feet of the first floor of the development, is known for its small-batch ice creams, old-fashioned sodas, malts, milkshakes and floats. The creamery uses ingredients sourced locally. Fat Cat has also taken over 1,000 square feet space on the second floor to expand its kitchen, allowing for more growth in the wholesale market.
“Opening our first location in the Heights was a dream come true, and our Garden Oaks location in the Stomping Grounds is such an exciting next step,” Sarah Johnston, founder and owner of Fat Cat Creamery, said in a news release. “We love our community so much and are grateful to bring more sweetness into the world with our expansion.”
Its grand opening will be celebrated Nov. 14 with and expanded menu of 14 ice cream flavors, which are five more than what’s now available, and complimentary canned craft cocktails.
Fluff Bake Bar reopened
After having to close and remodel due to permitting issues with the Houston Health Department, Fluff Bake Bar, 1701 W. 15th St., reopened Oct. 23.
The bakery was closed since July to renovate, which included a new grease trap, an additional bathroom and more. To help cover expenses, a GoFundMe was set up for bakery owner Rebecca Masson, and it raised more than $30,000.
The Classic shutters on Washington
The Classic, 5922 Washington Ave., which opened in 2018, has closed for good.
According to CultureMap, The Classic owner Benjy Levit said his company will focus on the expansion of Local Foods, which has a location at the Heights Mercantile, and other potential projects.
Fall cocktails at La Lucha
La Lucha, 1801 N. Shepherd Dr., recently released its fall cocktail selections that include a variety of flavors.
The featured drinks include People’s Choice: vodka, vermouth and brine; Improved Sherry Cobbler: sherry, gin, lemon, maraschino, ginger and Topo Chico; Emperor’s Clothes: aged white rum, overproof agricole rum and bitters; Prologue: London dry gin, vermouth, chicory and apricot; and Don’t Forget The ‘90s: vodka, Midori, pineapple, matcha and egg white.
