A much-anticipated new grocery option will soon be available to area residents.
German supermarket chain ALDI, which operates more than 25 locations in the Houston area, will welcome the community to an Oct. 3 grand opening of its new store in the Garden Oaks Shopping Center at 3938 N. Shepherd Dr.
ALDI will become the second grocery chain to open a North Shepherd location in the span of less than a year. About 15 blocks to the south, H-E-B opened a two-story supermarket in the Heights in late January.
“Shoppers are pressed for time and money, so we sell exactly what people need at prices they can afford,” Karla Waddleton, vice president of ALDI’s Rosenberg Division, said in an emailed statement. “Our streamlined selection removes the guesswork from shopping. We don’t carry two dozen types of peanut butter. We carry the best options at the best prices.”
The opening will include giveaways and potential prizes such as an eco-friendly bag, an ALDI gift card or the chance to win free produce for a year. Customers also will have a chance to sample some of the store’s products.
The first 100 customers Oct. 3 also will have a chance to win a “golden ticket” to the store worth up to $100.
The store, which broke ground on construction in 2018, will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Customers can find the majority of their typical items at the store, including fresh meats, fruits, vegetables and bakery items. Most products in the stores are ALDI-exclusive brands, but the company has added a limited selection of national brands within the last year.
