Harold’s Restaurant & Tap Room announced today that Executive Chef Antoine Ware resigned his position last month to pursue another opportunity. Owner, Alli Jarrett, stated “Antoine is the first person I ever hired at Harold’s and I care for him like a brother. I wish Antoine and his family nothing but happiness and great success.”
Joining Harold’s to lead its culinary staff is Executive Chef Richard Knight. Richard needs no introduction to Houston and he comes with a wealth of experience within the industry here and abroad. Knight opened Feast, where he was a James Beard Foundation semi-finalist and named to Bon Appétit’s Top 10 Best Restaurants in America 2010. Most recently he made Alison Cook’s Houston Chronicle Top 100 list at Hunky Dory in 2016.
“Chef Richard and I have a lot more in common than one would think since we are both from the South. Richard is from the Southern Coast of England and I am from the Southern Coast of the USA. We both believe in knowing where our food comes from and providing the freshest ingredients possible,” Jarrett said. We are committed to providing our guests with delicious Southern Fare from Near & Far as well as the utmost Southern Hospitality. Chef Richard will broaden what we do and we are delighted to have him lead our culinary staff”.
“When Alli and I first sat down we realized that we both were lucky enough to grow up near the coast, with many memories of pulling mussels from the rocks, crabbing, fishing and general shenanigans, resulting in wonderful family feasts fresh from the ocean. We both also share a great passion for supporting our farmers and community, trying always to use as much locally grown and raised product as we can and moving with the seasons,” Knight added. “We are both looking forward to working together and coming up with an exciting culinary mix drawn from both of our cultural backgrounds.”
Guests at Harold’s can expect staples like KG’s Double Brined Cast Iron Chicken, Shrimp & Grits and Granny Cake to stay on the menu. Gradually, over the coming months, Chef Richard will bring his own creativity to expand the reach of Southern USA and Southern England.
