All Harris County Tax Office locations and the Harris County Appraisal District are eliminating “direct customer service transactions” amidst concerns over COVID-19, the upper-respiratory infection caused by the new strain of coronavirus, according to Tuesday news releases from HCAD and Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Ann Harris Bennett.
“(This is being done) for the safety of our employees and the community,” Bennett said in the news release. “The tax office is not closed.”
Property owners, commercial customers, auto dealers/title services and volunteer deputy voter registrars will be asked to complete a transaction by either a drop box or mailing in their documents for the foreseeable future. Customers are also encouraged to use the tax office’s website to conduct all other business.
HCAD plans to operate similarly. Forms and applications are available on online at www.hcad.org, and property owners can file a protest using iFile or settle a protest using iSettle after creating an owner account on the website. A drop box also will be available from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the building entrance at 13013 Northwest Fwy.
HCAD customers can call 713-957-7800 or email email@example.com for questions. For more information about the tax office, visit hctax.net/ or call 713-274-8000.
