For the Heights High School football team, it’s another year of wondering what might have been.
The Bulldogs could not hold on to an early lead as they fell to Memorial 20-9 in a Class 6A Division II bi-district playoff game Thursday night at Delmar Stadium. Heights has not advanced past the first round since 2013.
Stephon Johnson caught a first-quarter touchdown pass from Jalen Morrison, while Juan Coronado added a 22-yard field goal as Heights took a 9-3 lead into halftime. After a Memorial field goal, the Bulldogs took a 9-6 lead into the fourth quarter, but Carson Zahn ran it in from 2 yards out with less than five minutes remaining to give the Mustangs a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Heights finished the 2019 season with a 4-7 record.
