It’s been a streaky season for St. Thomas, which hopes its most recent run of success lasts more than a couple of weeks.
The Eagles have won back-to-back games for the second time this season, having beaten Concordia Lutheran 31-7 last Friday night in their TAPPS District 3 opener.
St. Thomas (4-3, 1-0 district) has now won four of its last five contests. Quarterback Maddox Kopp threw for 322 yards and three touchdowns in the win, with receiver Cameron Bonner (237 yards, two touchdowns) accounting for most of the damage.
It was Kopp’s second 300-yard game of the season and his fifth multi-touchdown effort in seven games. Bonner is now up to a team-leading 625 yards and six touchdown catches on the year.
On the defensive side, Cooper Thomas (16 tackles, one interception) and Vincent Lee (10 tackles) led the Eagles’ stingiest defensive effort of the season as they stymied the Crusaders’ attack.
St. Thomas was the only area team to win last week out of six teams in action.
In other notable performances, Kendric Rhymes had a strong game for the Heights Bulldogs, amassing 169 all-purpose yards and a touchdown in their 27-22 loss to Lamar.
