A local dance studio is dealing with the aftermath of a burglary that occurred late Monday night.
Houston Dance Works owner Autumn Rosemond said she received a call from the property’s alarm company notifying her of a break-in shortly after 10 p.m. Monday. When she arrived, Rosemond said the back door of the studio had been pried half-open with a crowbar.
Houston Police Department spokesperson John Cannon confirmed police were called to the scene shortly before 10:30 p.m. He said Rosemond told investigators that the crowbar had been used to pull plywood back from the metal door.
According to Rosemond, the studio’s cash folder, which also contained customer and personal checks, is the only item that was taken before the suspect fled the scene.
Cannon said police have not yet been provided with surveillance video from the property to investigate.
“At the moment, based on what she estimates the damage to be to the door and what was taken, this would be a felony incident,” Cannon said.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-521-4600 or HPD’s burglary division at 713-308-0900.
