Authorities have arrested two suspects who allegedly led police on a chase through the area last weekend that resulted in an officer discharging his weapon.
The Houston Police Department said it has arrested 35-year-old Joshua Wayne Stacy on charges of aggravated assault against a public servant, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest in a motor vehicle. Police also arrested 43-year-old Russell Blaylock and charged him with possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest in connection with the incident.
According to police, a resident who witnessed a nearby white truck and trailer involved in a Sunday theft at Algiers Road and Burnside Lane flagged down a state trooper who was in the area around 8:30 a.m. When the trooper attempted to stop the truck and trailer, the driver – identified by police as Stacy – allegedly fled in the truck, according to HPD.
During the pursuit, HPD said the vehicle stopped momentarily at 7600 West Tidwell Rd. before backing the trailer into the trooper’s patrol vehicle and another vehicle. Stacey then allegedly fled until he reached the 5800 block of Pinemont Drive, where he stopped once more, and police say he again backed the trailer toward the trooper.
In response, HPD said the trooper shot at Stacey and Blaylock, who was in the passenger seat. HPD said Stacey then fled until he reached the 8000 block of Kempwood Drive, where the vehicle and trailer jack-knifed.
HPD said both suspects then attempted to flee the scene on foot, but were caught.
