According to media reports, a gathering at the Red Foxx Lounge in the 4500 block of Yale Street was intended to be a family friendly concert before a dispute outside the club disturbed the event and ended in gunshots along with resulting chaos shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday. Reports said the person killed was a 13-year-old boy standing near the bar inside. He was fatally struck when a stray bullet came through the window.
The Houston Police Department said a male suspect attempted to gain access to the club, but was turned away after refusing to comply with the club’s rules requiring a pat down prior to entry. Authorities say the man returned later with a firearm and began firing at will – killing the teen and injuring six other partygoers.
“A couple dudes got into it and then they left and then they started shooting from each angle,” one parent at the event told KPRC.
Two other adults at the scene who were injured in the incident drove themselves and two kids to a nearby hospital, police said. According to police, two of the other minors injured in the incident suffered minor lacerations as the result of broken glass, while another adult suffered a gunshot wound to the cheek.
The suspect responsible for the shooting fled the club in a blue Dodge Magnum. He was captured less than an hour later in the 1000 block of Dolly Wright Street. Police said two women were in the car with the suspect when he was captured.
As of publication, police have not released the shooter’s identity.
