Petrol Station, the neighborhood bar that served up craft beer and burgers for nearly 15 years in Garden Oaks, has permanently closed.
Owner Ben Fullelove said in a text message Thursday that the economic downturn associated with the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to the closure of Petrol Station, which opened in 2005 at 985 Wakefield Dr. Bars in the Houston area were forced to close from March 17-May 22 because of the pandemic, with those that serve food limited to to-go services during that time.
Petrol Station, which operated at a former gas station and was known for its patio along with its beer and food, had created a GoFundMe page in May to ask for financial support.
“Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the last 15 years,” Fullelove said.
Fullelove also owns Brash Brewing Company at 508 W. Crosstimbers Rd., just east of Garden Oaks. He said the craft brewery, which is among the most popular in Houston, remains open.
