I hate the self-checkout. And what’s up with kosher pickles? It’s a cucumber, they don’t need a rabbi to supervise vegetables growing and getting pickled. Your pork shoulder shoved the pickles off the scale, that’s what happened!
It happens … no big dill.
I refuse to scan and sack my own groceries. You should get a discount for working as a check out person. I say self check out is crappy service as I am a horrible check out girl. I get overwhelmed. BOOOO for the pickle suicide.
Reader glad Ashby exposes self-justifying nature of SBOE
Lynn Ashby’s editorial on the SBOE is a wonderful study on how to avoid the blinkered group think of small self-selected committees, who are there to make sure “the right thought wins.” It’s depressingly small-minded, parochial, unadventurous, derivative and smug. I’m glad that there are people like Ashby who expose the timid, feeble, and self-justifying nature of groups like the SBOE.
Don’t we have the sunshine commission to pull the plug on committees like this; who are so far past retirement that they would work better in a zombie movie?
The battles for our independence are special because most of the people were ordinary. Did they lack politically correct social awareness? I don’t know. Will the SBOE find ethnic diversity and gender equality in the rubble?
Like Mr. Ashby, I doubt it.
We need vigilance to prevent this in the future. Our children are our future.
Keep up the good work.

There are only losers in Prop B measure
(In response to Kerry) Actually, I’m not sure who you spoke with that is happy about the pension change, many many active and retired fire fighters have incredibly reduced retirement plans now that in some cases, some will have to work a second career after they retire to be able to pay for their high cost medical insurance and no cost of living adjustments like most people on social security receive. I was not happy at all with that 1.2 billion dollar reduction. And now with a salary that has stayed the same for years? Not good at all.
