I’ve had dumplings before, but I have never compulsively eaten them the way I did Ginger & Fork’s fried vegetable dumplings.
They were lightly fried with the edges crispy, and the vegetables stuffed inside were perfectly tender. They reminded me a little of a fried spring roll, but I found the thin outer layer made the dish more delicious.
There’s also the option to get the dumplings steamed instead of fried, as well as chicken dumplings.
But that wasn’t the only dish that impressed at the restaurant that strives to serve authentic Chinese cuisine, specifically with Cantonese-inspired dishes.
The soy sauce in the chicken fried rice was light, but made the dish better for it. Rice tends to be a filling food, but the simplicity of the sauce, eggs, green onions and chicken made it almost feel light.
It was actually my lunch partner’s meal, but I ended up stealing more than one bite.
The lunch menu is compiled of Hong Kong-style rice plates that are served with steamed jasmine rice or brown rice upon request.
I got the Cantonese Curry Chicken with the jasmine rice. The curry covered thin slices of chicken, bell peppers and sliced carrots, which was laid over the bed of rice.
The curry was a little spicy but was cooled down by the rice. I really enjoyed the bell pepper pieces with the chicken and rice. The peppers gave it a freshness that it would have otherwise lacked. The portion size was just enough to fill me up — and look forward to my next visit to Ginger & Fork.
To end my lunch, I got the Asian Pear Bread Pudding. It came with a caramel sauce that I drizzled over the top. Pears aren’t my favorite fruit, but I enjoyed the fruit’s subtle flavors combined with the bread.
Ginger & Fork tends to lean toward the expensive side, unless you are ordering from the lunch menu. So while it might not be your everyday restaurant, it makes for a great stop for a night out or a special occasion.
The restaurant is taking dine-in customers and continuing its curbside services.
