Anna Eastman and Luis La Rotta, the top two candidates in a crowded race for the area’s vacant seat in the Texas House of Representatives, have nearly two months to gear up for a runoff election.
Gov. Greg Abbott recently announced that Jan. 28 has been set as the runoff date for three special elections for open Texas House seats, including the District 148 seat vacated by Democrat Jessica Farrar in September. Fifteen candidates campaigned to replace Farrar, with Eastman and La Rotta receiving the most votes in the Nov. 5 election.
Eastman, a Heights Democrat, led all candidates by receiving 20.3 percent of the 20,659 votes cast. La Rotta, a Republican, received 15.8 percent of the vote.
Early voting for the runoff begins Jan. 21.
