A 13-year-old boy was arrested at an area apartment complex Thursday night after allegedly pistol-whipping an adult relative and then firing gunshots that struck a neighboring apartment, according to a Friday news release from the Houston Police Department.
HPD said the unnamed teenager has been referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department on charges of aggravated assault of a family member and reckless deadly conduct. The male assault victim, 40, was transported to an area hospital with minor lacerations and trauma, according to police.
HPD said its officers arrived at 2303 W. Tidwell Rd., the location of the Fountains at Tidwell apartments, at about 9:15 p.m. Thursday and were told that the juvenile had gotten into a physical altercation with a family member and pistol-whipped him. While officers were speaking with the victim and conducting their investigation, HPD said the boy returned to the scene and fired multiple gunshots into the air.
HPD said the teen then evaded police on foot and continued to “recklessly” discharge the gun, with at least two bullets striking a nearby apartment that contained a woman and six children. None of them was injured, according to police.
Anyone with more information about the incident is encouraged to call HPD at 713-308-8800.
