By the end of the year, what used to be Temple Oaks Baptist Church will likely be a shopping center called Oak Forest Place.
Demolition of the church building, in operation from the 1950s until 2018 at the southwest corner of West 34th Street and Oak Forest Drive, began last week. The commercial realtor representing Houston-based developer Ersa Grae Corporation, which purchased the property, said Friday that construction of a retail complex is expected to begin in the third or fourth quarter of this year.
“It’ll be a lifestyle shopping center,” said Radkey Jolink, vice president of commercial real estate company CBRE.
The plan for the 4-acre property is for the construction of between 20,000 and 30,000 square feet of retail space that likely will include restaurants and other service-oriented business. It is billed as Oak Forest Place on the CBRE website.
Jolink said CBRE is in the process of securing tenants for the development.
“We’re in conversations with a few,” he said, “but nothing is signed.”
