Houston ISD temporarily closed its headquarters Monday after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19, the school district announced.
HISD said its Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center, located at 4400 W. 18th St., closed at 1 p.m. Monday so it could undergo a deep cleaning and sanitization. The district said the building will be open for regular business hours on Tuesday.
“Though few employees have been in the office, those who were impacted are being notified and instructed to self-quarantine in accordance with public health guidelines,” HISD said in a news release. “As we continue to navigate this ongoing pandemic, employees are encouraged to follow all district and public health guidelines, including proper handwashing, social distancing and wearing a mask when inside district buildings.”
HISD said employees with concerns about COVID-19, the contagious disease caused by the coronavirus, should contact their immediate supervisor.
All HISD campuses have been closed since mid-March because of the pandemic, and the district is holding virtual graduation ceremonies for all of its high schools. On Friday, however, outgoing seniors gathered at their campuses and other locations as part of a community-wide graduation celebration organized by the City of Houston.
