Rooftop Cinema Club normally shows its films atop the property of 1700 Post Oak Blvd., but recently it got creative in the wake of social distancing. This month, it will join many other venues in reintroducing the drive-in theatre.
The Drive-In at Sawyer Yards will debut at 2301 Summer St. on May 12 with the movie Grease at 8:15 p.m. and Drive with Ryan Gosling at 10:45 p.m. Other showings are as follows: May 13 — Night at the Museum, Silence of the Lambs; May 14 — The Princess Bride, Romeo + Juliet; May 15 — The Greatest Show on Earth, The Rocky Horror Picture Show; May 16 — Grease, Moulin Rouge; and May 17 — The Sandlot, Brown Sugar.
The movies will be projected onto an almost 100-foot “screen” along the side of the silos at Sawyer Yards and broadcast through a car’s FM radio transmitter.
Once patrons enter on Summer Street, behind Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co., they will be directed to one of two driveway points to check-in and scan their tickets, after which they will park at a designated spot.
Movie-goers must remain in their car for the duration of the film, except for bathroom breaks and food pick-up. Rooftop will offer food and beverage through a contactless system with a designated pickup point. Patrons can also order beer and food from Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co.
“Our number one priority remains our guests’ and team’s safety and well being,” the company said on its website. “That’s why our services are entirely contactless. Sanitation solutions will be available on site and team members will wear masks and routinely change gloves. There will be constant cleaning of highly touched areas. Vehicles will be parked at least 6 feet apart.”
All ages are welcome but adults are encouraged to check a film’s rating if children will be in attendance.
