It was tough sledding for the area’s volleyball squads in the UIL state playoffs, with no qualifying teams making it through the opening round.
District 23-4A champion Booker T. Washington lost to Bay City in four sets Monday night at Bryan High School, ending its season and continuing an unwanted streak. The Eagles have not advanced past the bi-district round of the postseason since 2013.
Waltrip, meanwhile, fell to Lamar Consolidated 25-12, 25-16, 25-7 Monday night at Delmar Fieldhouse to end its season. The Rams now have a long playoff drought of their own, having not advanced past the opening round since 2011.
Waltrip has planned a fundraiser from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Shipley’s at 3410 Ella Blvd. to raise funds for its end-of-year banquet and volleyball equipment for next year.
Scarborough fell 25-8, 25-10, 25-8 at the hands of Columbia on Tuesday night at Bryan High School.
